JC (Jennifer Christine) Beichner was born and raised in Torrance, California and made her career in law enforcement working within Los Angeles County as a civilian investigator; taking police reports, doing CSI and conducting collison investigations. JC met her fire-fighting husband David on the scene of a traffic collision and in 2001, they moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where she began to write.
With an insatiable appetite for American Civil War history, and a deep love of literature, JC wrote her debut novel, A Dark Place of Promise to illustrate through her characters, the impact this incredible conflict had on the lives of everyday Americans, free and slave.
A Dark Place of Promise is JC's first book in a trilogy following the Matheson family through the end of the Civil War, the country's turbulent reconstruction period and the mass migration out west.
"America has no north, no south, no east, no west. The sun rises over the hills and sets over the mountains, the compass just points up and down, and we can laugh now at the absurd notion of there being a north and a south. We are one and undivided."
- Sam Watkins, Confederate Soldier after the Civil War
